PANDA [Performance And New Dance Arrivals] are some of the longest programs offered at the Field Center. Weeks consist of daily classes and workshops with evenings of performances, dance-parties, artist talks, crits and rest.

PANDA is a wild and non-academic space that is grounded in daily practice and intention. It is a place for people who make things to learn, to ask questions, to make new work, destroy and build practices and to be together as people.

DRIFT is an intensive based in research and skill-building designed to build up personal practices as well as strengthen a sense of collective belonging.  We will engage in experimental markmaking exercises, work on fundamental drawing techniques from observation and a live model, and tune into inner vision. Daily movement and contact improvisation sessions will keep us flexible, help integrate the senses and open gateways to empathetic relating.

In this week long collaborative workshop anchored in group ritual, engaging body, attention, and imagination-centering practices, and passionate and uncanny encounters with objects, landscape, and costume, we will “dialogue” with ourselves, one another, and everything to ask: how and why might we become more tender, more monstrous, more clairvoyant, more fluid; recognizing/uncovering our already multiple, hybrid, contradictory, messy, monstrous selves, groupings, world in the process.

Announcing our annual Summer Contact Improvisation Festival featuring 6 days of intensives, classes and jams exploring and training in Contact Improvisation. Contact Improvisation Workshop with setGO

This workshop is built on composition, connection, and touch— where each of these elements takes center stage at different moments, supported by the others.

ONE DAY WORKSHOP WITH.jpg

Our monthly Contact Improvisation jam!

2nd Wednesday of the month at 6pm. Classes with rolling teachers into open jamming.

Mark would lead his approach in the mornings (more systematic, mechanical, and accumulative) while Lily would lead the group in the afternoons through more improvisational, somatic inquiries, followed by a daily Contemplative Dance Practice (a practice combining mediation and improvisation developed by Barbara Dilley). The combination of the two approaches provides a comprehensive and unique way in to the ever-expanding practice of Contact Improvisation.

What if gravity were not just a force but a dance partner? What if the ground beneath us wasn’t just a surface but an invitation?

We will explore the space between sky and earth, where our bodies become the pathway, where mass transforms into weight, and where movement emerges from the subtle play of grounding, balance, and direction.

Building an ensemble over the course of six days, Driscoll will lead the group through warm-ups, prompts, play and scores, responding to what emerges between us. We will experiment with performance as a shapeshifting energetic practice. How do we cultivate the ability to tune our presence, shapeshift, and shimmer?
