Making Room For Fear: A Cold Water Experience
WITH AJ ROMBACH | NOVEMBER 21 | 10-3PM

Date: Saturday, November 21, 2026
Time: 10 AM–3 PM
Sliding scale: $35 / $55 / $75
Lunch: Bring your own lunch

The workshop will explore our relationship with fear and discomfort: how we meet it, make space for it, and develop greater trust in our capacity to experience it without being governed by it.

We’ll weave together learning and discussion, playful games and group activities, breathwork, movement to warm and prepare the body, and a guided cold-water immersion. Afterward, we’ll gather for hot tea, movement, lunch, and integration.

The emphasis is not on overcoming or eliminating fear, but on developing a more curious, compassionate, and empowered relationship with it.

AJ ROMBACH is a multidisciplinary artist, curator, educator, and somatic mindset coach. They received their MFA and BFA in Painting from Boston University and are a founding member and former co-director of FJORD, an artist-run space in Philadelphia.

Their work and research move between painting, sculpture, performance, somatics, and embodied practice. For the past six years, Rombach has maintained an ongoing cold-exposure practice, completing more than 500 cold plunges as part of a broader inquiry into the relationship between the body, perception, emotional experience, and belief.

This research also informs their work as the founder of Balanced Project, a somatic mindset coaching practice and 1:1 container exploring nervous-system steadiness, emotional processing, belief, identity, and the ways we learn to trust our own experience.

They are currently researching contact improvisation, somatics, and performance across Vermont, Massachusetts, México, Colombia, and elsewhere.
