SAWDUST: An Introduction to Building

Join us this April for a hands-on workshop on the basics of carpentry in a welcoming space for beginners of different ages and genders, queer carpenters, creatives of all kinds and those unfamiliar with building. Our focus is on creating a supportive environment for everyone while we construct two sheds from the ground up! You’ll gain confidence with power tools and an introduction to stick-framed structures that is applicable to the building of cabins, tiny houses, sheds and more. During these five days, students will learn to use hand and power tools comfortably and safely, measure and cut precisely, build and erect walls, build a roof, and install doors and windows. No prior experience is necessary. Learn to build a structure start to finish by doing it with your own hands!

We offer 3 full scholarships for Black, Indigenous and People of Color [BIPOC] folks in each session. As well as 3 Work Trade spots in each session. *Payment Plans: We do offer payment plans for most of our workshops. We can accept payments divided into 2-3 installments paid over a 3 month period. ABOUT THE FACILITATOR
Maria Randall is a woodworker, designer, artist and mama. She’s passionate about craft, relationship to place, and how story-making makes our lives. She carries a value for building our practical capacities as a community, with hospitality and care, which she’s excited to share with carpentry! She loves working with textiles, plants, paint, and myth.
Kate Hubbell has followed a two-laned path of teaching and working in the trades. These days she is mostly a carpenter and a mom, but she’s also worked as a natural builder, a tile setter, and a kindergarten teacher. She loves introducing and teaching basic carpentry skills to others and holds a strong belief that anybody who wants to, should feel capable and empowered to build and repair our world and that it is all of our collective work to dismantle systems that oppress or hold back others.
